Hi! So this summer I wanted to do a fun challenge. Therefore, I decided to do a triathlon. I do not know where to begin for training though. Do you know of any good training plans I could do that are like 12 weeks long?

Answer
Join a triathlon training group! That is what I did! And it was a lot of fun! I joined a group that was training for a specific triathlon so that we would be prepared in time for the same race. Plus, I got to meet people that would do the triathlon with me, so that i wasn't lonely on race day! the main equipment you will need is a bike, bike helmet, running shoes, and a suim suit.

What is good week by week training routine prepping for intense duathlon????

The key is buliding a mix of endurance and strength. 7 weeks for a short mini-marathon is very doable. Break your training down into 2 week intervals and each 2 week set into micro-intervals or periods.

Period 1:
Focus on LSD (Long slow distance). Swim 2 days a week, run 2 days a week and bike 3-4 days a week. You can do two-a-day workouts with little or not fatigue. Keep your run to no more than 2 miles, swim to 1/2 mile and you biking to 20-30 miles for each workout. Make sure you have a rest day builtin to your training. Maybe 2 if you get tired (or cut out the 2nd workout).

Period 2 - Mix LSD with short intense climbing spurts on the bike. Nothing more than 20-30 seconds of these 'intervals' once a week. Keep your running and swimming to the same frequency, but increase the duration by 1/3rd for each. Keep your bike rides to 25-30 miles.

Period 3 - Increase the duration of your 'hard intervals' from 20-30 seconds to 30-40 seconds. Ride your bike for 30-40 miles. Your swim should come close to your 2 mile distance. Same with your run.

Period 4 - The week before the event, takes things easy. Continue to train, but dont beat yourself up. Run/swim/bike but only to keep your muscles loose and retain your muscle memory.

Other things - For this marathon, you need to make sure your bike is in good working condition. Same with your helmet. I wouldnt wory too much about things like aero-bars. Only if you find that you really enjoy the pain/suffering of triathlons and decide to do more. Otherwise, I wouldnt worry about it.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and get lots of sleep for recovery.
