Good and cheap dirt bike helmets?

I am buying a dirt bike and i need a helmet that is under 100 dollars but is not really bad. Any suggestions?

Check ebay and amazon. Also look for older ones. You're not gunna get a pretty 2013 or 2014 helmet for under 100. Rare if you do and if so please tell me where to find them. check some of the slightly older gear like 2011 or 12. I got one off ebay for like 74 bucks and it's a 2012 purple and blue skull candy. OLDER IS BETTER! Make sure you know you're size though it may also run different with some brands. I don't recommend you buying one used because they may have hidden cracks and imperfections. Also make sure it is snell and DOT approved! hope this helped!

Bike Purchase: Which one would you purchase for a new bike commuter?

Hello everyone, so I've decided to ditch the automobile (for financial reasons mostly) and I want to purchase a bike. Its up to these two bikes which I will get but can't decide which one is worth my hard earn money. One is the Diamondback Edgewood LX Hybrid which is $300 and the Giant Escape City 2011 bike which is $540. I'm new to bikes so I don't know all that much about bikes so any help is very much appreciated. I'm only biking 6 miles roundtrip on city streets. My main question is whether there is a justification to pay that extra $240 for the Giant bike or are both bikes equally durable and good performance wise to go ahead and get the $300 Diamondback bike?

The Giant is a much more capable platform. The overall components are generally a step above the Diamondback. Also if you are going to use the bike as a commuter you need fender and a bike rack which would run you another $50 to buy and install so the actual difference is more like $190 dollars.

So go with the Giant, buy some lights, a tire patch kit and minipump, water bottle holder, and a helmet for a total of about $600 dollars. Seems like a lot but consider that is costs about $.50 a mile to own and operate a car so your bike will pay you back after about 100 trips to work (about 1/2 a year)

5% less than MSRP. Dealerships make almost nothing on the sale of the bike. They make money on all the crap in the store, and the service for the donks that don't know which end of the screwdriver hurts the most.

So, you can go in with guns blazing or a detailed spreadsheet, but they'll shake their head and laugh. Buy two bikes, or get a new helmet, and look to get a discount on those. Accessories are a 30% markup.

One look at a nice middle aged couple decked out like costume shop bikers and walking down main street in broad daylight thinking they are badass will give you your answer. Or that half helmet or beenie, black of course, they all wear, another clue. Saw a big fat old lady on the back of a harley last year in fluffy pink slippers and purple sweat pants....another clue. All the guys who buy a brand spanking new harley and immediately pay $10K+ to have a bunch of engine work done on it to squeeze out another 10 horsepower, smart? Chrome skull turn signals? Mufflers that you can hear long after you are too far away from the highway to hear 18 wheelers any more. Motorcycles attached to big trailers. Trailering a bike to a motorcycle convention. Paying more for a 10 year old bike than it cost new....anyone pay attention to the housing bubble? $7k for a 40 hp 2011 antique. $36,500 for a 75hp 2011 antique.

Not saying these people are stupid. But they certainly have strange priorities. I think it is more like rubes on the midway. Madison avenue knows how to play with peoples heads.....kind of scary. But personally I think we are all being grifted all day long. Most of business and politics is carnies trying to get one over on the rubes.....us. The harley thing is just one of the funnier scams.

I want to buy a dirt bike in 2011. For about 4 months temps here are from 90f to 105f. Do the most expensive helmets help your head to stay cool?

i think paying more for a helmet helps keep it lighter and supposedly more protection. maybe a tad bit cooler , but i'd look at some sorta camel- pak for water or cool towel. something to keep ur body cooler
