The last question is a "cycling license". And what I mean by "what style of bike" is what would a long distance/race bike be considered. I only get $150 every two weeks and want this bike to count. I want to be able to do MORE long distance with friends but also be able to do a FEW races with it. Sorry about that.

Underarmour will work just fine for your jersey, in fact that's what I usually wear because I find them to be more comfortable and cooler for the hot ca sun. If you want to go distance though, invest the money in a good chamois and your be happy you did.

Giro makes very good helmets, price doesnt really say much because they make a wide range and if you look online you can find last years higher end models at this years prices so it could be a very good helmet.. or it could just be a cheap current model. Either way, comfort and fit are way more important than style or price. It is, after all, your head on the line with this one.

I usually hit up sporting goods stores like Sports Authority and such and they usually have a rack full of $20 shades that will have one or two pair that I like.

Orbea is a very good first bike, though they are a bit pricey. I recently rode their new Onix which is a bottom-end carbon frame and it was awesome... was a $3000 bike though. Cheap for carbon but not cheap for starting out. Are you getting a deal on a bike or do you just favor Orbea?

Road bike... At least for starters. Long distance and race bike is almost an oxymoron at any reasonable price level since you usually want your race bike super stiff for maximum power transfer and handling as opposed to comfort. A long distance bike is going to be a bit more supple and forgiving for those 100 mile days. I'd recommend you start out with a frame geared more toward distance than all out race for now, as you progress and get more serious about the racing side of it you can build up a true race rig.

Helmet Camera for Airsoft?

I am planning to buy a helmet camera to record one of my airsoft skirmishes and I dont know which one to get under $100. I think i found one http://www.lightinthebox.com/Multi-functional-Outdoor-Skiing-Cycling-Snow-Boarding-Helmet-Camera---DCE163-_p85965.html but if you look at the reviews, it says it is not for paintball. does that mean the same for airsoft? I mean, if a bb hits it, will it break? can i dive and run around? please respond with a yes or no or if you find a better camera then please post it (remember, try to go for under $100). Thank you

I need a helmet $100 or less that doesn't look like a giant mushroom on my head. Right now I have a super cheap giro and it looks big and goofy. I know helmets are made for safety, but are there any that look good while protecting my head? Something low profile

Go into a local bike shop (avoid wal-mart and other stores that don't specialize in bikes) and take a look at a few. Helmets have come a long way since those old Bell helmets from the 90's. if this doesn't work out Trek and Specialized make some very nice looking ones for both road and mt.biking, and yes they r under $100

Places to buy affordable motorcycle protection?

Q. I'm looking for a place that sells motorcycle protection for a good price, almost sharted myself when I saw a one piece armored suit going for 500-1000 dollars. I hope there are places that sell protective gear for a more reasonable price, or maybe thats reasonable, and I'm just a noob.

all my gear i've gotten from my local cycle gear:
gloves (mesh for summer, waterproof for winter)
pants (w removable air panels)
mesh jacket
vented mx boots (with waterproof covers)
thermal base layer
helmet (modular w internal visor)
cooling base layer for extra hot days
-all black synthetics (except gloves) with CE rated padding for under $600
one complete layer alone was less than $450- helmet (100), jacket (80), pants (100), gloves (40), and boots (120)
all my gear (except thor boots) is of cycle gear's in house brands- bilt (5 yr NQA warranty) or sedici (lifetime NQA warranty)
i've been very pleased so far with the design and quality of cycle gear's protective apparel- i've only replaced the waterproof gloves after a few years because they were leaking. they grabbed a new pair off the shelf and i was on my way with no hassle
they also have higher end and leather gear/ full suits, i just wasn't interested in the extra expense/ weight/ lack of flexibility

ok i want to get into cycling like with a racing bike. what should i get to get started?

im 18 years old and competitivly run so i know im in shape, although i have heard that running and biking have nothing in common. so how do i go about starting this change? like what do i have to buy? and is there like biking clubs that bike together all the time?

Start with a helmet. Never put your butt on the seat without your helmet on your head.

Cycling shorts and gloves aren't 100% necessary, but they do make a big difference. A cycling jersey instead of a T-shirt also makes a big difference.

You will be on the road bike for much longer times than when you go running. Buy a big tube of sun screen and use it, especially on your neck, ears, and thighs.

Shop around for a true road bike. Go to the local shops and see what they have that fits into your budget. Test ride the bike. Go to other shops and test ride as many bikes as you can. One will just fit and feel better than the others. Buy that bike regardless of the name on it. The business is so competitive that any two bikes at the same price point are very likely to be equivalent values.

Road bikes get flats. Get a mini wedge bag that attaches under the seat. Get a set of tire levers and a spare tube to put in it, about $3 each when you hit the sales just right. Get a pump ($15 and up). Get water bottles. Your bike may or not come with water bottle cages. I always have two on my bike ($5 each).

To be most effective, you will need clipless pedals and shoes. However, those can wait for a while if cash is an issue.

To find out about your state DMV site, check out http://www.dmv.org/

For my state (VA) my DMV "driver services" website is here http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/citizen/drivers/index.asp under "Motorcycle License" it has all the info I need - I need to add the "M" class designation to my current automobile drivers license or get a separate motorcycle license. To obtain either of those I must:

-pass a vision test,
-take and pass the motorcycle knowledge exam
-get a motorcycle learner's permit and hold it for 30 days OR enroll & pass the MSF class (aka VA Rider Training program)
-pass the motorcycle road test

I wanted to enroll in the MSF class however they are booked solid until mid-december so I am stuck with my learner permit for 30 days which has some restriction like no passengers, supervised / escorted by a licensed motorcycle operator over 21 from a separate vehicle, require helmet and eye/face protection. It's a bit of a hassle but better than waiting until the MSF class, and since I have previous off-road cycle experience it is not mandatory I take it - however it is **highly** recommended for new riders since it will give you basic handling techniques including avoidance maneuvering techniques.

I have never heard of a 100% crash statistic, for real crash statistics check out The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety research page http://www.iihs.org/research/default.html and the Insurance Information Institute info page on motorcycle crashes (based on iiihs.org info) http://www.iii.org/media/hottopics/insurance/motorcycle/ unfortunately only 2006 data is currently available - out of 10,584,000 incidents 104,000 were motorcycle related. That is 1% of all motor vehicle incidents (not 100% as was mentioned).
