The course and written tests are included in the $28 driver's license price. Vehicle license depends on the scooters value rather than size, but I suspect registration would be less than $100 per year. I suspect insurance would be less than $100 per year. Have the dealer include the lock in the price of the scooter. If buying a high-end Italian or Japanese scooter then have the dealer through in the helmet also.

Maintenance includes a smaller fuel tank that has to be filled up more often than cars, tires that do not last as long as car tires and need to be changed more frequently, you would want to check your air pressure more often than car drivers do, I do not know of many cars that still have zerk fittings but you would want to keep the chain lubed on your scooter, and I suspect the manufacture would recommend to change the oil every 3,000 miles rather than a car's traditional 5,000 miles. However, your scooter's brake pads, shoes, and fluid should last longer than cars since they're stopping a dozen times less weight, but you would want to inspect them just the same if not more frequent.

I want to know this because if I get into a motorcycle accident I don't want to buy a helmet where the helmet comes off.

All helmets that are DOT/Sneel approved have at teh very least a chin strap with D ring pass through or a ratchet style. The most common being D ring style....No helmet sold that is legal for use on the road comes without....period. If it were otherwise there would be nos safety value in that helmet at all . It can only work if it stays on your head first of all.

You need a licence. Take your licence (drivers) to the local Department of Motor Transport (Queensland transport) answer questions, get them right, pay about $20 get an ugly photo taken (not you personally, they all turn out ugly) wait around for a bit, Helmet compulsory, absolutely! pushbikes get fined $30 for a kid not wearing a helmet on the road, we seem to value our brains over here! If it isn't a pushbike, and you ride it on the road, you need a licence in Queensland.

Just out of curiosity, if you were walking in the middle of the road and some car hits you, what speed would actually kill you? like i guess it mostly depends on what part of the body you're hit at but just generally, what speed do you think will allow you to survive?

So you want to know how to survive a pedestrian/car accident.

1. Your head is what you need to protect. Wear a helmet before encountering cars with your body if at all possible.

2. If you can manage to get your feet slightly off the ground before you impact this will cause you not to get run over by the vehicle. You will however roll over top of the cab of the vehicle and impact the ground.

3. Try for the Safety Glass The safety glass in all newer (After the 70's) cars is shatter proof and can acted as a "cushion" absorbing the energy of the impact, breaking the glass and not you. If you can try to roll into a ball with your back/bottom to the glass and your head tucked between your elbows.

4. No scenario or course of action can do anything more than mitigate the severe trauma that is usually sustained in a pedestrian/vehicle collision. ALTHOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW PEOPLE TO "WALK AWAY" FROM IMPACTS, THIS IS MORE RARE THAN YOU THINK.

5. At lower speeds you can attempt go onto the hood and over the cab on foot. This is probably the best way if you are expecting it - or if you are being targeted by the driver. This will be less successful on larger vehicles.

6. Think about your move and the fact that you will probably be injured no matter what you might have done.

7. Do not give up.

You didn't say what size it was. There's a big difference!

It's not that easy to say what a used motorcycle is worth. The Blue Book is not really useful for motorcycles and sports cars because people usually want them so bad they're willing to pay more than BB price for a good one.

So much depends on how well the bike has been cared for. A bike with records of dealer service and regular oil changes is worth a lot more. Added equipment raises the value somewhat (but not nearly to the amount the equipment originally cost). Good cosmetic condition raises the value. 8000 miles is just barely broken in for a Japanese motorcycle. But tires are only good for about 10k miles, so consider that you might have to replace them soon.

Spend a few minutes on your local Craigslist and see what comparable bikes go for--not just Vulcan but Yamaha Star, Honda Shadow, etc., in that size range.

Also, before you accept the helmets, and their added value in the deal, make sure one of them fits you! 8^)

Has anyone been involved in a car accident and briefly what happened?

Q. When I was 16, I was working 70-80 hrs. a week. I fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a telephone pole. I had my seatbelt on. Thank God or I'd be dead! I had a hairline fracture in my breast bone from the seatbelt. I had a burn mark on my neck from the seatbelt but it saved my life. The ambulance driver couldn't beleive I was alive.
Just curious, what the heck is bejesus?
I'm 35 now. I was stupid and saving up for a marriage that I wish I wasn't ever in but that's another day on the Oprah Show!!

I crashed on a car rally once. I threw the car into a left-hand bend on a dry, high-grip surface, but then saw a patch of frozen water.

I knew |I was going to go off the road, and immediately straightened the car up for the impact, but going head-first at 70mph into a tree is never a good idea!

The engine ended up underneath the car and I was hurt. Somehow, I managed to bend the steering wheel with my arm and chest, but didn't break any bones.

I now know, first hand, the value of a safety seat, full harness belts, a crash helmet and a safety-cage inside the car.

It kept me off work for a couple of weeks, but I survived the ordeal rather better than the car. (The tree is still alive!)

Not something I would like to make a habit of, I think....it doesn't half shake you up.

Which dual sport/adventure bike is best for me?

I am looking for a sport or dual sport bike. I am a beginner and I recently asked a question about which sport bike can I buy and all of the answers were about I am not gonna be able to handle a good sport bike (Also I am 6'4" and 195 lbs so I started to think dual sport would be better for me). So I decided to buy a dual sport. I want to use it on road as well as dirt so I don't want an enduro bike. I wanted Triumph Tiger 800XC or BMW F800GS but I just found that adventure bikes are better for me because I would like to use my bike on long roads as well dirt. I searched for some models and I really liked Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré. Is it suitable for me?

I don't know the bike but it's heavy. If it's what you want, I'd find a used one and try it. You can change your mind. I would find a group that goes where you want to and try a used bike from one of them.

Since you're a beginner, spend time with old, experienced riders in good shape. Check meetup.com, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and Thumpertalk for riding groups, classes, and info. Be prepared to spend more money on your second helmet. There's safety in numbers. Remember there are old pilots and bold pilots but no old bold pilots. Etc.

This isn't exactly an answer to your question but it is first hand knowledge. I am 5'10'' and 210# and 45yo. My first bike since I was in high school was a Suzuki 2006 DR 650 SE. This bike is used in Baja California races. It is old tech and reliable, so it's a good first bike if it fits you. But I know it's not perfect. The seat is known as the razor. Seat solutions vary from aftermarket seats to losing weight. This makes the long rides you mention less enjoyable but the local club rides from San Antonio, Texas to Big Bend National Park. The DR650 weighs half as much but will carry two riders, 390 Lbs. from the break down site home, but mini vans will pass you. It will do 105 MPH with me alone, but feels twitchy, especially compared to a sport bike.

My point is that suitability is subjective and so it's hard to answer. However, weight matters on a bike and yours would weigh 750 Lbs. with you. That sounds like a lot to start with, to me.

When I am looking at motorcycles, I look for bang for the buck. Not necessarily HP/$ but some type of value. Personally, I like to ride a bike some before I buy it. This limits me to used bikes. Buying from someone willing to ride with me after I buy it means they will be around to give me tips about how to deal with it when it's acting up or go get help.

People that you ride a lot with are much rarer than people who own motorcycles. Treat them well, they are great friends to have.
