Why should kids wear helmets when riding bikes?

ItsSarahYo

Besides head injuries?

Answer
Helmets for kids PAH!!!!!

Kids are kids they will hurt themselves sometimes (didn't we all??)

If you're going to get them a helmet, Dont forget :

Gloves
Elbow Pads
Shoulder Pads
Spine Guard
Groin Box
Knee Pads
Safety Shoes
Goggles
No sharp objects in Pockets
No jewelery or money (in case they get Mugged)
Mobile phone (in case they're late)
Mace
Burely Minders (might be dodgy people about)
Sat Nav Tracking system (incase they are lost)
Don't forget to wrap them up in lashings of cotton wool!

Do your kids wear bike helmets?

Jessica

I bought my son his first "real bike" today....and along with it i bought a helmet, which also came with knee and elbow pads. I plan on him wearing the helmet and at least knee pads...maybe not the elbows...his dad says this will make him a "sissy", and that boys shouldnt wear helmets. My son is 4, im not about to trust him to be 100% safe on a bike, and as close of an eye as i keep on him, we all know it only takes 1 second for something to happen...is it uncommon now a days to wear one? Is it "uncool"? Do your kids wear one? Why or why not? Thanks!

Answer
Okay, he's FOUR. I would not ever let my child (four or any age), (Girl or boy) on a bike without a helmet. A four year old is not a pro biker. He's going to fall and scrape his knees and hands, and get himself hurt a bunch of times. But if he's not wearing a helmet, he can fall on his head and either bust it wide open and end up in the emergancy room or end up dead over it. Any parent will make their children wear a helmet, unless they just don't care what happens to them. No, wearing a helmet will not make him a "sissy", it will save his LIFE. That's just as ignorant as saying "boys shouldn't ride motorcycles with helmets, because it makes them 'sissys'". If it does, I would rather have a "sissy" son than a "dead" son.
Explain that to his dad.

We have a 2 year old son, and we're buying him a little trike for Christmas. Now we want to get him a cute bike helmet to go with it. If you'd happen to know where I can buy bike helmets with kiddie designs that can fit kids' heads that would be great. :) Thanks!

Answer
Go downtown at Quiapo(where i bought most of my road and mountain bike parts). The opposite side of the church where the road goes towards España. 10 bicycle stores you can choose from. Also at Cartimar, lots of bicycle stores too. If you prefer airconditioning convinience go to SM Manila's sports stores.

I won a titan mountain bike and helmet and I don't neeed a bike. All of the kids in my family already have bikes so I was thinking about donating it to a child at Christmas. How do I go about doing this> I don't want to just give it to a charity because it might go to a greedy person who works there. Where can I find an actual child in need that could use this bike. Or is there a charity that is TRUSTWORTHY that I could give it to that would actually give the bike to a child in need? I live in Michigan.

Answer
I know what you mean about not being able to trust that your gift will not end up going to someone who deserves it. My credit union and other banking establishments offers names of needy children at Christmas time. The names are on tags hung on Christmas tress inside the banks. Each tag gives the name, age, sex, clothes and shoe size of each child, along with what the child wishes for from Santa for Christmas. You don't even have to wrap the gift. It will be wrapped for you. You can also give to "Toys for Tots", sponsored by the Marines.
It is hard to trust when it comes to gift giving. I just finally had to trust that God would see to it that the right person would get the gift I gave. God be with you.

Does anyone manufacture a car seat for a motorcycle, like those ones you see on bicycles?

Norm Hayes

My other kids love riding the motorcycle with me around the neighborhood. Of course I always make them wear their bike helmets when riding but they get the biggest thrill from riding while sitting between me and the tank. Now my youngest is getting really jealous because she wants to ride and I want to take her out just like the other kids. Could I use one of those kid seats that are made for the bicycle or could I just pull one of those kid-trailers behind my motorcycle?

What behaviors did you stop when you had kids?

Behaviors that you decided are inappropriate i mean. I stopped smoking. And getting drunk. I don't even get tipsy if the kids are away for the evening. My wife does sometimes, and I think it is fine. I still ride my bike without a helmet. I drive more safely I think. I stopped playing World of Warcraft and other online video games and I think that was my biggest sacrifice. It simply took up too much time so I had to quit cold turkey.

Answer
I think the only inappropriate behavior I had before my daughter was born was driving like an idiot. Prior to my daughter being born I was never a party animal, and never did anything crazy and I quit smoking 5 months before she was even conceived. I definitely drive much safer now that she is here.

What kid of bike is good for an adult beginner?

tothepoint

I never learned how to ride a two wheeler as a kid just a tricycle.

I've tried the Giant Suede and the Schwinn Town and Country Trike and was looking at the Townie. $500 is about my price range.
By tried I mean I hopped on and sat on it while the saleswoman held the front wheel. The trike I was able to get on an d go obviously =D

Answer
You will have to judge if a three wheeler will meet you needs.

I will tell you how to learn to ride a two wheeler. Buy a low cost Dahon folding bike and get a bike helmet. Drop the seat way down so you can stand up while sitting on the seat. Wear your helmet and long pants. Go to a local park during quiet hours when no one is there. Drop the seat on the Dahon so low that it can be used as a scooter with both of your feet flat on the ground. With helmet on and riding in the soft grass in the park walk around with your weight on the seat and getting the hang of the steering. Don't use the pedals at all and in fact they can even be removed from the bike. When you get too far leaned to one side use the leg on that side to right yourself and start again. This will take most adults about 1-2 weeks of visits to the park to get the hang of it. After a while you will be able to coast and hold your legs off the ground for several seconds before the bike loses speed and leans over. At that point you can try to actually start pedaling.

Why do the cops let some kids ride their 4 wheelers on the streets and without helments?

jean ann j

Concerned people that see kids going as fast as they can without helments on, on four wheelers, call the police. The police come out and just look and do nothing. Also the kids suddenly go into their houses.

Answer
Yeah, you're in the wrong section. This is a Cycling section. 2 Wheels with pedals.

Cops don't always let this by, but in some cases they do. I've seen multiple 5-8 year olds ride a bike without a helmet in a park which is right across a police station. Now some cops just don't always bust people when they see something wrong. I once road on a sidewalk to get through a intersection on my bike and a police officer just starred and took a grin at me. He knew i saw him, yet i still didn't get a ticket.

If you are so concerned, maybe you should just call and make a complaint the next time you see them
