Should I get a helmet for a toddler?

zuckie44

My son will be 3 in June and my mom got him a "My First Scooter" to give for his birthday. I was wondering if a helmet is necessary. He loves Elmo/Sesame Street and I saw a set that has the helmet, knee and elbow pads with the characters all over it but since he won't be going that fast, I was wondering if he needs this or should we wait until he starts riding a bike to get the helmet.

Answer
Get him used to helmets now and he'll probably be more inclined to wear 'em later on when they're really needed.

New Dora Bike?

Riley's Mo

My 3 yr old has been wanting a bike with training wheels for quite some time now. We went to Wal Mart and when I put her on the 12" one, her feet were not touching the ground. Just the tips of her toes (barely). Do you think this bike it too big for her? I don't want to buy a smaller one (10") because she will soon outgrow it, and her tricycle just seems too small. Would you wait a few more months until her feet can touch the ground, or just buy it and see how she does? We already have a helmet and knee/elbow pads that she wears while on the tricycle.

Answer
I say that you should buy it. 3 is the usual age of the toddler growth spurt. She will soon grow into it. If she struggles riding it when her feet dont touch the ground then just let her ride her trycicle and tell her that as soon as she is big enough you can transfer her to the training wheeled bike. Good Luck!! I know its hard determining what to buy for growing toddlers!!
