Answer
what about a skateboard? helmet?pads? what about games that are sports he could play on the wii? My son is only 7 and he is into skateboarding, riding his bike, Ben 10, Bakugan, drawing, playing sports and watching tv along with games for his PSP, Nintendo DS and playstation. Not sure I helped much but I tried. Also there are toys now called TECH DECK where kids can put there boards together by themselves and keep creating different ones, there are guys that go with it along with ramps and stuff.

What is it like living near Myrtle Beach, SC?

I've lived @ the beach for 4 years now (moved from Baltimore) & I have to say it's a LOT better to raise kids down here. The public school system kinda bites hard, but there are 2 catholic school, one being a blue ribbon school, that have a great turnout rate. A catholic high school is being built soon; scheduled to open in 2013. I'm lucky enough that I don't have to work, but employment oppurtunities only really come around during the tourist season from mid-April through September. The city's revenue took a big hit when the mayor made so many controlling laws that all but restricted bikers to come into town for the spring & fall rallies. They go to surfside just down the road now instead, where the noise laws aren't as ridiculous and they don't have to wear helmets. A lot of bars that were local-favorites had to close up & move outside the city limits to try to regain the bike traffic from the popular bike weeks. The housing market...well it's bad everywhere but companies are buying land up for super cheap now and then running out of funds to finish the job. Makes the city look like a has-been. However, houses that were once fetching upwards of 750K are being slashed to 320K. Excellent time to buy if you have the money. A condo (& most communities) have crazy high HOA fees, but a builder named Lennar has a few developments where I've heard the HOA's are lower than $50/month.

During the winter, just about all the bars & restaurants have great happy hour deals to bring the locals out when the tourists are gone. Wal-Mart's my go-to shopping place for just abouit everything. Another one is being built to bring the total to 4 Wal-Marts within 30 minutes of the city so the place isn't too terribly overcrowded; on week days anyway. Lowes Food doubles coupons if you don't want to spend time in line @ Wally World.

All in all, i couldn't be happier with the city itself. There's a few farmer's markets that open up in the spring, the beach is a 5 minute walk from my place, library systems are great...stay away from the Boulevard (ocean blvd) when it's dark out. That's where you'll read about most muggings/attacks in the paper. They added a penny tax to try to make up for the loss of bike week, but i'm alright with spending that in the city limits as opposed to wasting gas money to travel out for the sake of avoiding the tax. Oh, & there's always something going on. especially @ Broadyway at the Beach and (cleaner than broadway) Market Common.

AND you can tell all the folks back north (sometimes as early as February) that you're lounging on the beach in 80 degree weather while they're shoveling their drives. :)
